UK Staycation: The Lygon Arms, the Cotswolds

Jess | Editor In Chief

Set in a 16th century coaching inn with 86 guest rooms and suites, The Lygon Arms is an award winning luxury hotel located in the heart of the Cotswolds.

With a deeply rooted history dating back to the 1300’s, The Lygon Arms boasts one of the most glamorous guest books in the world. Everyone from Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor to Oliver Cromwell, Charles I and a myriad of actors, movie stars, politicians, prime ministers and even Prince Phillip have been resident of this beautiful Cotswolds hideaway.

After a substantial multi million pound renovation of the public areas, restaurants, spa and leisure club, The Lygon Arms has been transformed into a modern day oasis. Suitable for every occasion from a romantic weekend away to the perfect spot for afternoon tea or a corporate stay/away day and or meeting place, the owners of The Lygon Arms have created perfection at every turn.

After a two hour train journey from London to Evesham, we arrived at The Lygon Arms ready to unwind and detach from city life. The main house is a warren of secret spaces with log burning fires, luxe fabrics and classic portrait art on every wall. Heading straight to the bar before checking in to our Courtyard Suite, we settled into The Lygon Arms way of life over a sloe gin on the rocks while making plans to visit the spa for a massage later that day.

Our room was located only a 30 second walk from the main house and overlooked the beautiful courtyard with the spa in one direction and the hotel gardens in the other. The interior of our suite was elegant and homely with classic furniture and tartan fabrics. Changing into our robes after a glass of champagne, we made our way to the spa to indulge in some relaxation including a massage, a swim and a 10 minute stint in the steam room.

Later that evening, we made our way to The Lygon Bar and Grill situated in the 17th century great hall in the main house. On entering, it is a ‘wow’ moment for everyone who visits. The room with double height ceiling is complemented by the glow of candle light in the evening and awash with natural sunshine during the day. Settling down for a luxurious evening with a bottle of red wine chosen from an extensive list, we ordered from the menu.

Like all things at The Lygon Arms, the menus in the grill are classy, traditional and exquisitely created. Wild mushroom and truffle soup as the first and fillet steak for the main course, it was a meal to remember. Making our way to a snug next to the front door of the main house after supper to finish our bottle of red, we were so relaxed that we found ourselves asleep within minutes cosied up in front of a log fire. When we awoke, we had been draped in a beautiful blanket and the staff had left us chocolate cookies as a midnight snack. The perfect end to a perfect evening.

The following day, we made the most of a lazy morning reading the papers tucked up in bed and eating breakfast we had delivered to our suite. Exploring the hotel in greater detail with the amazing team, gave us a much clearer idea of how The Lygon Arms can cater to any brief they are presented with.

The venue is an Assistants dream and allows guests to experience innovative meetings where contemporary meets history. It is the perfect location for business meetings and ideally located for entertaining clients, or having away-days. The three meeting rooms (The Drawing Room, The Edinburgh Room, and The Cromwell Room) are each individual in character and have been recently renovated with the rest of the hotel.

Breakout spaces can also be made available if required and bespoke menus for parties of up to 50 individuals, complimentary parking and access to The Lygon Arms spa & leisure club are accessible amenities when booking a meeting or event.

If exclusively hiring The Lygon Arms is of interest and something that fits either business or personal event briefs, nothing is too much for the team to discuss with you. An accommodating and knowledgeable events team means that the impossible can be made possible in the Cotswolds with not only the in-house activities and requirements taken care of but activities in the local area too.

For us, The Lygon Arms is the only and obvious choice for visits to the Cotswolds. Business meetings, UK staycations, romantic weekends away or the perfect gift for loved ones, there is nowhere else we would rather be.
