Eating at: The White Haus, London Farringdon

Jess | Editor In Chief

Set in London’s bustling Farringdon, you would be surprised to find anything but your standard pub full with city workers enjoying a drink after a long day at work. Unless, you stumble across the newly opened White Haus which brings the charm of The Alps to the heart of the capital.

Do you struggle to find an unusual but perfectly located space for all things corporate entertaining or team events? The White Haus is high on our list of recommendations for all London Assistants and can accommodate almost any request you have.

With its unique, timber clad, chalet-style bar and dining room, complete with a bookable vintage cable car, The White Haus is spread across three floors with cosy corners featuring sheepskin throws, ‘snowflake’ chandeliers and quirky cuckoo clocks. Old skis, mittens, photography and other memorabilia comes courtesy of the Ski Club of Great Britain, whilst a full-size TV shows old ski movies and winter sporting events.

For the Assistants who book regular private dining or private events, from meetings through to parties, there are two private rooms which can cater to canape menus to a la carte.

Located on the lower ground floor, The Pery Room is a truly beautiful and flexible space with cladded walls and ski memorabilia. It comes complete with its own bar and a dining area for up to fifty, with a separate dining room for twenty seated. Here is where we were seated, enjoying a range of White Haus specialities including cheese fondue and Swiss beer-battered fish and chips washed down with some of the best cocktails we have ever sampled.

Open throughout the day including breakfast, The White Haus is a great location for morning meetings without the boring breakfast options most venues provide. Here you can start the day with the likes of a ham hock and Emmental croque monsieur; warm pain au chocolate; or the Haus Breakfast – a take on the English full works with Bavarian sausage, smoked streaky bacon, grilled tomato, potato rosti and fried eggs.

With all menus at The White Haus taking inspiration from the Alpine countries of Switzerland, Germany, Austria and France created by Executive Chef Jamie Polito and Head Chef Dan Davies, the main menu features sharing plates and bar bites such as pretzel with horseradish crème fraîche; beetroot hummus with chèvre, mint, hazelnut dukkah and pitta bread; and ham hock and taleggio cheese croquettes with grain mustard mayonnaise. Larger plates include a classic chicken schnitzel Holstein with fried egg and anchovies; a gluten-free tartiflette with green salad; or a sharing veggie board of baked Édel de Cléron vacherin, pickles and potatoes.

Upstairs, you will find a balcony level that can also host up to fifty guests in a more casual vibe with its library-style lounge, roaring fireplace and TV showing old ski movies.

Our thoughts? We inquired into holding a private event in The Pery Room before we had even got to our main course. Let’s just say, we will be back again!
